Playtest August 13

Another great night at Potions & Pixels PLAYTEST brought two amazing tables—and lots of new energy for GridCore.

Table 1 · Bobby & Paris

Their innovative energy set the tone. Paris impressed right out of the gate explaining what social intelligence is. Bobby suggested a cooperative spin, which evolved with my friend Nathalie’s help into  Jury Mode—a way to appeal a “wrong” choice with a group vote.

Table 2 · Amanda, Devin, Alex, Dylan

Devin kept the whole table engaged, while Amanda nailed a new rule: every time someone uses a portal, you have to say “swoosh.” It’s now official. She also complimented the tactile feel of the wooden coins and stones. This group showed again how much the arguing and discussing matter—Resonance Tokens will stay.

Mechanic Changes inspired by Aug 13 Playtest

Jury Mode: players can appeal a “wrong” choice by triggering a group vote. Resonance Tokens are here to stay.

Dice Choice: roll one or two dice, choices everywhere.

Win Conditions: either collect all six values or end after a set round limit with the most coins.

Component Changes inspired by Aug 13 Playtest

Scenario Card contents: rewrites for clarity and better value alignment - these types of changes are so valuable and important!

Gameplay Cards: redesigned with layered backing and clearer Ready → Choose → Play   flow.

Board: inner circle enlarged, fewer squares, clarified portals with arrows, removed “play the grid” slots. Bigger magnets for the tension spiral 🌀.

Color-Coded Choices: each scenario answers will be printed in bold solid colors for clarity.

The best part of the night was seeing how players put their own stamp on the game—from sound effects to new mechanics. That creativity keeps shaping GridCore and it’s so fun to be a part of.
